[Aka-e]
A technique of decorating ceramics. Overglaze painting used glassy colors of red, green, yellow, purple and blue. It start to be made in China during Sung period and Kakiemon started to make Aka-e ceramics in Japan for the first time in Tenpo period (1644-1648).
Kakiemon and Ninsei are the representative Aka-e potters in Japan.
[Gorosuke ASAMI]
The 5th generation master of Shozui kiln.
Around 1850, the first generation Gorousuke established the kiln in Gojozaka, Kyoto and created tea utensils and ornaments. Tessai TOMIOKA (a famous cultured person in Meiji and Taisho period) favored his works.
Since its establishment, each generation has been trying to rise the traditional pottery and Gorousuke ASAMI was recognized by the Japanese government as a Technique Preservation
Artist in 1943.
The 4th generation Gorousuke received various honors and the Gorousuke style pottery was highly evaluated. Especially sophisticated Mishima utsushi chawans and sometsuke chawans has been attracting people.
The 5th generation Gorousuke ASAMI made a study of glazes at the Kyoto Ceramic Research Center after he graduated from Kyoto University of Industrial Arts and Textiles, then he studied under his father for many years. He succeed the 5 generation Gorousuke in 1967.
He is a member of Kyoto Traditional Pottery Society and held exhibitions in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
