[Keiten TAKAHASHI]
A Kamashi, a craftsman who makes Chagama (a cauldron at Japanese Tea ceremony)
He was born in Yamagata City, Yamagata in 1920. His real name was Takaji.
After he succeeded his family business as a metal caster, he started to study creation of Chagama under Tetsushi Nagano, Living National Treasure in 1950.
In 1951 he won won a prize at Nitten Exhibition for the first time, then his graceful works were highly evaluated and got many prizes.
He created Chagama to offer to Emperor Showa in 1961, and to His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince in 1979. In 1992, he received Fourth Class Order of the Sacred Treasure. He was recognized as the holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) in 1996.
He died at the age of 89, in 2009.
