[Kumi NAGAOKA] (1874-1960)
A Izumo ware potter in Matsue city, Shimane prefecture.
Kumi is the 9th generation master of Rakuzan kiln which has a history of more than 330 years.
He was born as the oldest son of the 8th generation Kunyu and succeeded the kiln from his father.
Kumi was impressed by masterpieces of Japanese tea ceremony displayed at the 100th anniversary of Fumai Matsdaira held in 1917 and then he got to create his works with sense of Tea ceremony culture. He left a lot of master pieces of Senju Ikaho Chawan, Nandan Mizusashi(a south Europe style water jag) and bale shaped chawan.
Kumi died in 1960 at the ge of 60.
