[Gyozan OKADA]
A kiyomizu ware/ Kyo ware potter in Kyoto. The present generation is Gyozan VIII.
In the beginning of the 17th century, Gyozan I was a official potter for Shorenin temple in Kyoto, as he received the art name “Gyozan”. The kiln was moved to Gojyo area during Tenpo era(around 1890). Gyozan VII came to make efforts to export fine Kyo ware to overseas, and he displayed his works at the world exposition in Vienna and Paris. Gyozan VIII, the present generation, succeeded the name in 1998, and his authentic works displayed at the Modern Kyo Ware and Kiyomizu Ware Exhibition held in Paris in 1993 got a high reputation.
