[Suminokura-mon (Brocade with Suminokura Design)]
The name of this design is originated in the fact that Mr. Suminokura Ryoi (1554-1614) who was a wealthy merchant in Kyoto was so attracted by this design. The refined pattern depicts a fruit tree and a lovely figure of a rabbit looking back on the raised earth.
The original brocade was gilt paper stripes to create the design on the light green ground, but Tatsumura Textile made this brocade with their warp-patterned technique in new colors.
[Chirimen]
Chirimen is a silk, wool, or synthetic fiber fabric with a distinctively crisp, crimped appearance.
Kinsha is a kind of Chirimen and it has more minute wrinkles, smooth and glossy touch.
Mon-kinsha is a Kinsha fabric with woven patterns.
