Yusui Toku (1913-1988)
Yusui Toku was a renowned Kaga-Yuzen painter and textile designer from Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture. He was active during the Taisho and Showa periods.
1927 Began apprenticing under Konya Seisho
1938 Became independent
1947 Returned to Kanazawa to start his own work
1966 Held personal exhibitions across Japan, garnering praise
1973 Became president of the Kagazome Association
1977 Became an accredited Traditional Craftsman
1978 Designated the status of Preserver of Important Intangible Cultural Properties for his work with Kaga-Yuzen
Branched out into the international scene with personal exhibitions in Oxford (UK) and Dusseldorf (Germany)
1988 Passed away at the age of 74
His second son, Mitsuru, succeeded his name in 1990.
